LAKE DISTRICT
The Lake District National Park website states on where can I park a motorhome?
You can park them in our car parks. However if it takes up more than one vehicle space, you must pay for the additional space or spaces.
You can leave a vehicle in one of our car parks overnight. However you cannot stay in the vehicle. This is supported by our byelaws.
Ambleside
OS Landranger 90
From Windermere go along the A591 to Ambleside. At Wateread bear left and 100 yards there is a large car park without height barriers but does have width markers.
There are some lanes that are wider than others and one particular one is next the coach bays.
This is a pay AFTER stay car park i.e. you pay on leaving the park. As you enter a camera takes your vehicle number. 5 hours is £5.40. We went in January and the camera didn't take our number correctly so we could have parked for a minimal amount but worked out how long we stayed and paid accordingly. Whether the camera wasn't working in winter is difficult to say.
It is a mile into Ambleside. On the left as you walk in there is a small car park at the rugby club without height or width barriers at £4 per day. But it is quite small and I would suggest you need to get there early to park.
Daisy's Cafe is excellent for a meal.
Rydal/Grasmere
OS Landranger 90
There are 2 car parks in between the lakes on either side of the road. Both have no height or width marks but are a bit rough underfoot. Both are pay AFTER stay and the same camera problems occurred the same as Ambleside.
The one on the south side of the road is larger but busier. Both are OK for larger vehicles.
Grange Over Sands

Berners Close car park LA11 7DQ has no height barrier but does have some width marks although when we were there, there was fresh tarmac covering a good deal of the surface which also covered the width marks.
Walk down to the prom, over the railway and about half a mile into the town.
Arnside

Opp the Olde Fighting Cocks the road is wide and MH park here. There is a medium sized car park but would fill up quite quickly in busy periods. When we were there (January) it was very wet and rough.
There is an excellent chip shop here and a good bakers.
Kendal

Parking available at the Kendal Cricket Club ground. This is on Shap Road and is easy to find. The board on entrance says Private Parking and then gives a price for parking per day. We took this to mean that parking was available. However there is nowhere to pay the daily rate. What we did is post the price in an envelope with a note explaining what it was for. We even tried to contact someone on the phone but with no luck..
